The city of Boston has put up a climate change website that republishes EPA and other federal government stuff that the current administration has scrubbed:

http://climatechangedata.boston.gov/

The top of the home page identifies it as a City of Boston site, and says
The City of Boston wishes to acknowledge and attribute this information to the United States Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for the decades of work that they have done to advance the fight against climate change. While this information may not be readily available on the agency’s webpage right now, here in Boston we know climate change is real and we will continue to take action to fight it.

I haven't explored very much yet, but there's a lot there.

Happy Father's Day. Sorry for missing last week's check in.

The theme of this week seems to be Secrecy in the Senate to Screw us on Healthcare.

Housekeeping
Reminder that we have a suggestion post if there’s a topic that you’d like to see discussed but would like to ask the mods to look into. This can be anything from general information, or a how-to-do-a-thing, or something you may want to discuss as a community. Folks are welcome to post directly to the comm as always, but if you’re not comfortable/don’t have spoons, we can help too.

Also if you need help with tags, PM [personal profile] redbird who is our tag guru. Both [personal profile] tanaqui and I are very grateful for the help.

Healthcare - McConnell wants the trumpcare vote to happen before the July 4th recess. That's two weeks away.

One of the dozens of political messages today asking me for money was from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The headline was "Washington Post: The Senate's Three Tools on Health Care: Sabotage, Speed, and Secrecy."

Nobody expects the Senate Inquisition!

For folks like me with a Democratic Senators:

The Indivisible Guide has your back: It's Time to Stop TrumpCare and We've Got a Plan. The Senate is trying to do what the House of Representatives did in May: jam through its TrumpCare bill in secrecy, without public hearings, without a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score, and without knowing its full impact on American families. That’s why the time to put on the pressure is now. We’ve put together new resources and an action plan to help.

Why talk to the monkey when the organ grinder's line isn't busy?

It's time for another question thread!

The rules:

- You may ask any dev-related question you have in a comment. (It doesn't even need to be about Dreamwidth, although if it involves a language/library/framework/database Dreamwidth doesn't use, you will probably get answers pointing that out and suggesting a better place to ask.)
- You may also answer any question, using the guidelines given in To Answer, Or Not To Answer and in this comment thread.

(both seen at [community profile] fail_fandomanon)

Here's a twitter thread with a good summary of the current situation, as well as some great ideas and resources for taking action. These include a link to a list of Health Legislative Assistants for various senators, and the suggestion to reach out via social media to friends in states with key senators who need to be influenced:

https://twitter.com/benwikler/status/872911051628707841

It also points out that, worryingly, staffers report calls to senators' offices have fallen back to near to "normal", pre-Trump levels.

This Trumpcare Toolkit also provides a list of the key senators who need to be influenced and gives some easy ways to reach them. There's also a link to a letter asking the Senate to take expert and public testimony on the bill:

https://www.trumpcaretoolkit.org

Edit: Another list of staffers dealing with healthcare for Republican senators:

https://mobile.twitter.com/jonfavs/status/873223442518073346

From the responses to that thread: if your senators are Democrats, you can call and ask them to hold off on all non-essential business until a public hearing is scheduled for the new bill.
