roadrunnertwice: Silhouette of a person carrying a bike up a hill (Bikeluggin')
Wow, okay, hey. Looks like I've been ghosttowning over here, but I'm still here!

I'm sure there's something going on worth blogging about, but I just went to the woods with Robert and Raye, who came down from Tacoma on vacay. And my hands are kind of cold today and I don't currently feel like typing a whole bunch. So I'm going to do a picspam post instead:

So I was thinking about how I hadn't posted anything for quite a while, and was racking my brains trying to figure out what I had done lately that was both remotely interesting and remotely shareable. And it's like, hellooo, flake, you totally went to the woods this weekend! So yeah.

aaaaaaand yeah. )

Oh, also, Portland is in a heat wave or something. I am sweating like a magical new kind of pig that has sweat glands.

Speaking of which, via [personal profile] spiralsheep via [personal profile] chronographia, we have sheep-pigs. Ayup.

Time for the return of an old Minneapolis favorite of mine. No, I still don't get it.

  • Take a picture of yourself right now.
  • Don’t change your clothes.
  • Don’t fix your hair
  • Just take a picture.
  • Post that picture with no editing. (Except maybe to get the image size down to something reasonable. Don’t go posting an eight megapixel image.)
  • Include these instructions.

Library cards on bed

I love libraries. If I'm going to be living in a place for more than a month or two, a library card is near the top of my "collect these powerful talismans" list.

I think I got my first library card when I was seven. I don't have it anymore; a few years after that, the Timberland system split its database off from the Evergreen and state government reference libraries and issued those purple cards as replacements. But I still remember what it felt like in my hand. It was green with white lettering, and instead of the tapered thin-profile form you can see on the current ones, it was as thick as a credit card, with a sharply-cut edge that showed a cross-section of its plastics (green on either side, white in the core). It was stiff, and would hurt your palm a little bit if you gripped it too hard. Which I sometimes did, simply to remind myself that I had a library card.

Anyway, the purple Timberland card that replaced it is the most venerable one I have right now, and I've had the number memorized since I was about 11. (Oh, hush up. Think about how many phone numbers and locker combinations you've had to remember, then get back to me with that raised eyebrow.) The MPL one (also memorized) has the classiest design, though the Cork City one gets big points for bilingualism. And my alumnus card takes home the "most ghetto" award.

Right, so the camera on this new phone* is extremely shitty. And I am okay with that, because it is just a phone; mostly what I need it to do is make calls and texts and not take up too much space in my pocket. That said, it is very cool to be able to just whip it out anywhere and start firing away, and you can still get some worthwhile shots with it.

Here are some from yesterday's crazy storm. Read more... )

Blurry as hell, but that's the closest I saw to what the color balance really was. Call it a mood shot.

So yeah, I totally saw Neko Case on Wednesday. She blew my mind, you probably heard about it. And I brought back evidence for y'all. )

And that was our snow day. )

The thing about this storm is that it was completely balls-out random. Came out of nowhere and made a big fat mess, dumping ten inches in what, by my best calculations, had to have been about a four-hour span. And that's our story.
