Well, nuts, looks like Places is getting dropped as a Firefox2 feature. Sounds like it wasn't going to be coming together in quite the timeframe they were hoping for, so they're bumping it to Firefox3. There are still a whole lot of good things planned for 2, but Places was the one feature that just screamed "major version number" to me.

What you can still look forward to for FF2:
  • Better tab behavior, including Undo Close Tab as a stock feature, rethinking the close-tab button, and corralling new window links into tabs by default.
  • Better feed handling.
  • A more functional and extendable search service. (This is already the place where Firefox towers head and shoulders above all other browsers, so I'm kind of excited to see what's coming up.)
  • Session Restore.
  • Spell check (as-you-type) for text fields.
  • Minor improvements in memory usage.
  • EDIT: Also a "visual refresh," but I haven't seen any evidence of what that'll look like yet, so I'm hedging my bets.

Still, though... once Cocoa widgets and Cairo-Mac land, I think I'm headed to Trunksville.

And now I know how to PROPERLY adjust a front derailer instead of just winging it for three hours in the MacBike workshop with no decent references. THANK YOU SHELDON. Once I had that section printed out for reference, it took less than an hour to do the job right, and it should stay good for a while now.

I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't just chuck the search for a desk job and try leveraging this for a stint at The Hub.

And now for something completely different. )
