roadrunnertwice: Me looking up at the camera, wearing big headphones and a striped shirt. (Default)
So I got some books.

the spines

I've been meaning to finally do my first solid adult readthrough of LOTR for a while now, and was planning to hunt down a set of the cute old '70s pocket paperbacks like Dad has -- they fall apart pretty easily, but the art on them is way cooler than just using movie stills, which seems to be the trend lately. BUT. We were in this little bookstore in Northhampton, and they had this gorgeous trade paperback edition I'd never seen before. Or rather, they had two out of the three. I couldn't resist grabbing them, and once I got home, I snagged the matching Fellowship on one of those $0.01 product + $3.99 shipping deals on Amazon Marketplace. It showed up in the mail today.

covers

I love trade-size paperbacks. I prefer them to hardbacks, which is probably a minor heresy or something, but there you go. I like their proportions, I like that clean feeling of solidity they have, and they just fit in my hands more satisfyingly than anything else does. So there's that. But the real kicker here is the spare, sexy cover design they have going. They're some obscure-ass book club edition from '01, and they out-class every other set of those books I've seen. I love 'em. Can't wait to get started reading.

If you've been needing a copy and fancy the look of this set, the ISBNs are:
