It's gone for good. Middle-click still destroys tabs (and will continue to do so), but other than that, they've basically switched to the on-tab close button model that Safari uses. (With some differences; instead of immediately spilling to an overflow menu-list, it still shrinks the tabs like Firefox always did, and then removes all but one of the close buttons before the tabs get too small to select without accidentally closing.)

I dunno... I figure it's probably for the best, but there'll definitely be some confusion ensuing.
