Hey Nick... just now saw this post (I just logged in on DW for the first time in ages), and I'm so sorry to hear about Frankie. She sounded like a wonderful cat. I'm glad she was so treaured by the two of you.
We had to have one of our nearly 16-year-old cats, Lucien, put to sleep just a few days ago. It was the worst thing I've ever experienced. We weren't expecting his condition go downhill so quickly; we tried just about everything we could. But nothing was helping, and his quality of life was gone. I guess it's just one of those things that's always going to feel too sudden.
I keep looking for him, too. Expecting him to see him in the corner of my eye, curled up on his favorite blanket, trying to eat random things he shouldn't be...
