*Tom Waits voice* it's not a playhouse for the children

Finished making Ruth’s present!! I thought it was gonna take me like three days, but I was able to just beast it for like six hours yesterday and get it done.

One of Ruth’s quirks about gifts is that she does NOT want it a minute earlier than The Day Of, and one of MY quirks about gifts is that if I manage to come up with something good, I want to hand it over like a minute after I pull it off... so basically Ruth is always totally sanguine leading up to Christmas or her bday or whatever, while I’m over here going out of my mind bc I want her to open it.

That’s also why I’m not really generally good at gifting holidays: if I come up with something GOOD to get someone, I’m likely gonna just give it on zero occasion instead of hoarding ’til it’s appropriate. If I give a good gift on Christmas or a birthday, usually it’s because I got lucky with my transmissions from the void and something occurred to me at the last second.

By a “GOOD” gift, I mean delightful, specifically perfect for the recipient, plus at least one of:

  • Unobtainable
  • Indispensable
  • Hilarious
  • Impossible to predict or even really to state a clear desire for, but intensely desired in retrospect

Anyway, IMO this one maybe qualifies. I assumed she would have figured it out already because it made a huge ruckus in the garage and there was no good way to hide the preparations, and while it’s “hidden” under a tarp now, the size means there’s only so many plausible things it could be. But she claims to have no idea, so we’ll see! If I do manage to surprise her, it’ll be a miracle.
