(no subject)

So for one odd reason or another, I was thinking about SACD and AudioDVD while I was in the shower. Have you noticed that no one you know owns one of these devices? Have you noticed that no one THEY know owns one? These have been around for what, five or six years?

There are a bunch of reasons for this, I'm sure, but the big one is kind of sitting right there in the open, blinking in the harsh sunlight. I'd like to suggest that VHS vs. Betamax has actually entered the national mythology. People in our culture are now exactly as likely to get embroiled in a format war as they are to exceed the altitude tolerance for a wax-based flying apparatus, build their houses out of straw, or hop in the sack with large canines pretending to be their relatives. I find that interesting.
