Drawn on quarters

Look what showed up on Friday's Olympian:

The three WA quarter candidates.

Excuse me, state outline? What are we, fucking Ohio? Pennsylvania?* We are Washington State, and we have a huge fucking mountain. Let's just make friends with the inevitable, okay guys?

Although I must say, that killer whale design is actually very, very nice. Stylish, clean, beautiful, and incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't lived here. My vote may be a hard one.

EDIT: You know where every vote for the state outline design is going to come from? Eastern Washington.

______
* I was going to say Nebraska, but I luckily caught myself: one, Nebraska hasn't come up yet, and two, their design kicks some serious ass.

Damn, Nebraska's is good.

My thoughts track your exactly. State outlines are dumb. I really like the mountain/Salmon, it's very pretty. The Orca isn't as cool as I wanted...I wanted one of the styles that is all chock-full of smaller designs, with no empty space. But I know fuck-all about Indian art. I like the fact that it doesn't exist anywhere but here, though. I'm going to have the same tough vote.

Point of interest:
Members of the committee that picked these three were First Mike, Senator Lovick, and Eva Locke, Gary's 4 or 9 year old daughter. Badass.

Also, it turns out that my design idea, having heads on both sides, was pre-vetoed by the Federal Mint and was never even an option. Think about it: heads on both sides... It would have been glorious!

I also wanted the double-headed quarter (and DAMN the - is difficult to find on a Japanese keyboard!) and was very disappointed to learn state seals were against the rules. As it is, my vote (can I vote from here?) would be for the mountain/salmon or the whale. The whale:s really damn cool, so probably would end up winning for me.

(LJ is having difficulties, apparently. If this shows up multiple times I:ll come back at break and delete a couple. By the way, it:s snowing here.)

of course, if you'd said *nearly* incomprehensible, I would have been forced to agree.

OMG the whale one is GORGEOUS.

See, I just don't buy it. I guess there must be some image of a Native-Art Orca in my head that that is conflicting with.

I'm still as torn as ever.

You get to VOTE for your state's quarter? Bastards. I'm pretty sure Virginians didn't.

We just got told "Here's the design." My vote's for the mountain, by the way. Gotta love big-ass mountains.

That's a GREAT picture! Your eyes start at the bottom, and you think, "Wow, what a dump." But then they get to the top, and you think, "Whoa."
