Well, holy hell and a half. I actually did it. I bought my ticket back east. I leave here on March 5th, my 24th birthday.

And with that, I think I'm going to go get a drink.

God, YES. A thousand times, yes. This post-college thing has kicked my ass five ways or more, and I'm sure there's more to come.

You know, I was originally planning to leave in August or October? It's funny; this whole time, I've been beating myself up for not getting out and doing something with myself, but if I had actually left on time, there is a serious cadre of good, true friends that I simply wouldn't have gotten to know. So balls to that self-recriminatory crap; I'd say this was time well-spent.

Which is one of the best things about leaving a place, really; that revelatory sense of perspective that we're always desperately chasing.

well you realize this means very big going away/birthday party, right? or did you kind of plan it that way on purpose?

You know, I actually wasn't thinking about a going-away party at all. Or a birthday party. Mostly, I was just focused on going away.

So, uh, I dunno. Right now, everything that's in the queue is pretty low-key. I'm having a beer or two with Robert on Tuesday, and Dylan implied she'll be making a cake or something for Wednesday's Salon down in PDX. Mr. Lawrenson and I are also planning to shoot the shit over a pint or two on Monday, and it looks like Baldwin and I are going to chat and watch the Tune Stranglers a little while after that. I WOULD like to see you and Rose again before I jet, so if you're free sometime, that'd be cool.

And I guess that shows you why I wasn't thinking about a birthday/going away party qua party. My friend base here is just too scattered. (Which in turn is one of the reasons I'm leaving in the first place.)
