HERE's a cute story for you. Yesterday morning, of course, I noticed that the front light on my bike had been stolen, although the rear flasher was still on. That afternoon, I parked my bike outside my apartment yet again; just for a few hours, while I took a break between things I was planning to do. I came back out that evening to ride over to the Kitty Cat Club, where Holly's band was playing a show, and noted that there was no rear flasher to turn on for safe riding. This time, the mount was not salvageable, and had in fact been broken in half when the light was detached.

Now, it's POSSIBLE that some weakened plastic gave way while I was bouncing over the shitty pot-holed roads. But I'm doubting it, especially since the front light had also been torn off aggressively—the mounting was kind of swinging free when I noticed it was gone, because whoever jacked it was in too much of a hurry to go throw rocks at giraffes or something and opted to just yank instead of using the quick release.

What really chaps my ass is that I don't think they're even going to USE it for anything. I mean, it's not a functional flashlight like the front lamp was, and they fucking ruined the mounting while they were at it. I figure they just chucked it in a dumpster somewhere. Hope they had fun with that! Oh, plus, both of those were loaded with rechargeable NiMH batteries, which are expensive, are toxic, and are also definitely headed for the landfill, whether immediately or whenever they run out. In conclusion, people are scum.

Wow, to listen to all that, you'd think my car got stolen or something. Way to blow trivial bad luck out of proportion, especially when it's my damn fault anyway! But still, I feel much better about it now, so up it stays.

It's like those two kids that were shooting into traffic in Florida. Some people do crummy things for no good reason at all. The human mind does have its very sucky sides.
