We had a thunderstom in Nara today, and several of my kids were too scared to take their nap. But no rain at all, just thunder and lightning.

It was over 33C today and completely overcast, as it has been for about a week or so. Just fucking miserable. And my school's not been using the aircon regularly 'cause it's expensive and we're a new school and thus need to save as much money as possible, so there's not even any respite indoors.

On the other hand, I buy ice cream everyday for lunch from the (beautifully aircon'd) Lawsons across the street.

Japan is just different, isn't it. I can't imagine a school here not using air-conditioning because they're new and it's expensive. Why the difference?

It's expected that our school is going to be losing money this first year, so we're doing everything possible to minimize the damage. This is why I've got three students in my class that are significantly younger than the lower age limit for nursery, why we don't use the aircon much, and why we try and save every scrap re-usable paper possible. Most of these decisions are made by our manager and boss-lady.

Man, I want a thunderstorm. I don't want muggy-as-all-hell, though.
