He wrote a compelling autobiography which I listened to on books-on-tape earlier this year. An odd, sometimes passive-agressively annoying, yet very intelligent and intentional person.

and yeah, that movie is wacky kind s of good.

I LOVE the original. I'm so sad I didn't see it when two members of V6 starred in it, but it didn't tour down to Osaka. Sadness. Al did go see it, and apparently was the only one laughing for most of the show.

Oh my GOD Gene Wilder is hilarious in the movie though. Haven't seen the remake. Have you? Is it worth it?

I saw the remake. I thought it was good, but I've never seen the original, so I have no idea if it'd be a let down or not.

I'm actually starting to want to see the remake, because I frankly have no idea how you would even go about remaking it. That's sort of what I was stumbling toward with the crack about Hollywood deciding to stop being insane—there are so many things in it that I really can't imagine seeing in a real movie once the sixties ended. Like that bit where Gene Wilder screams, "I'LL DO IT!!11@!" and the fountain goes off, or the whole deal with the dancing secretary, or how Wilder gives that inspirational speech at the end and then it cuts directly to them in the slammer, or, hell, just the pure, beautiful, unsullied mid-century New York City triumphalism. That shit is all AWESOME, but for one reason or another, it's just not there in modern movies, and for me, it's what made the original worth watching.

So yeah, I'm curious.
