Oh, man, you know what else I'm kind of excited about? That PS2 remake of Tales of Destiny. I miss those characters. It's rare that you get an ensemble RPG cast willing to inflict so much trauma on each other. The guys from Tales of Eternia bickered constantly, but Leon actually tortured people. And like I said before, having your amnesiac character actually act like she'd sustained some brain damage was pretty fresh.

I also notice that there are like four Tales games now that I've never heard of. I haven't played any modern video games lately. There's all this stuff I want to play, but man, time and money. I really think it's about time to get a PS2, though. Does anyone know a good way to play North American and Japanese games on the same box? Are there still "mod chips?" Or do I have to make a choice?

If you have a flip-top PS2 you can get a device that lets you open the system and do a swap pretty easily. I don't know if ToD Remake is worth it, though. What I saw of it at TGS looked sort of awkward -- badly-animated characters in 3D environments.

I've played a bit of Tales of Legendia, it was all right but I didn't get enough time to make a full opinion. They also remade Tales of Eternia for the PSP if I remember right, I'll have to ask one of my friends if he's able to get a hold of and play that to see any changes. Tales of the Abyss is out or should be out soon I think but that's another PS2 game. In remaking games related news the PSP version of Valkyrie Profile is pretty damn good by all accounts. If you havn't played it yet I'd suggest grabbing that for PSX. Downloading it is your best option though as anyone who knows of the game's value can sell it on ebay for $150 and up. Just a rare game these days. So far as I know there are tons of mod chips for PS2 with all different levels of modding and even the part that allows you to pop open the lid needs a small mod chip. You can get them for either style of PS2 and the only thing to make a choice about is if you simply want to play foreign/burned games or if you want to go to the point of doing emulation or running a computer OS on it.
