One benefit of moving every six months for three years1 is that you DO eventually learn a thing or two about staging your exit from a place that is about to cease to belong to you. And one of the big ones is that you do not want to be holding any high-point cards when the hand's about to end.

Well, actually I learned that by playing rummy with my mom. But it still obtains. And as such, I sold my futon today. (The futon itself's still here, but they cut me a check for $145 and took away the dismantled frame. The dude will be back for the cushy part tomorrow morning.)

I also spent a decent chunk of today taking down posters and art, and the whitespace and absences and boxes of books are starting to make me feel like a camper in this apartment, rather than a true resident.

It feels good, I think.

People can't help but accumulate stuff as they live in a place, but once you've pared yourself back to the bare minimum, you wonder why you can't stay lean and mean the whole time. And nothing like pulling in to a shiny new city (or a familiar old one) with everything you own in one convienent bundle.
