Hmm, I thought I'd have another ten days to decide on a username.

Which is to say, HUZZAH, I am [personal profile] roadrunnertwice on Dreamwidth!

I had it narrowed down to this and Detour Boy*β€”it was that thing where I'd have been perfectly happy with either, but managed to work myself into a frenzy trying to decide which was best. (This happens reliably, by the way, and is reason six why I detest shopping.) On the one hand, Detour Boy is shorter, and [livejournal.com profile] zizz was right about it having cool connotations of exploration and discovery and the road less traveled. Plus it's not tied to a particular cultural reference, and it can be abbreviated to "db" for bonus musical reference fun.

But I ended up going with Roadrunner Twice for its non-obvious personal meanings. I like how it's built: a past embarrassment repurposed by mixing it with other things I've discovered in the meantime. I like how it's more of an evolution than a rebirth. I like how it's also kind of about being lost (in a roundabout wayβ€”how else), but focuses more on the joy of motion and the freedom of aimlessness. Plus, it's already somewhat, uh, road-tested, whereas Detour Boy was new enough to be something of a gamble.

And you know, one of my favorite writers named a thing after that song, which makes it feel like I'm part of some obscure tradition. And I like that, too. I think this one's a keeper.

* Rotcedar is already sort of claimed for a different project; Sun Pinion wasn't, but I think it might be now; Shortcuts We Know, well, I do love "Where They Walk Over St. Therese," but it's maybe a little too emo to name oneself after. I do like Motor Sprite still... maybe I'll do something else with it? And here I thought my problem was going to be not enough names that I liked.

I haven't imported my journal yet, and I'm not going to disable comments in the LJ for... well, for a long-ass while? I'll probably save it until we can see the other side of open beta? I think. Eventually, I'm going to make LJ into the secondary journal, with full entries here and comments over at Dreamwidth. For now, I'll mostly be playing around; I'll probably get a lot more serious about it once they get the secure cross-site flist code up and running.

But I like it here. There's sawdust everywhere and the sound of power drills, but it feels kind of homey already.
