Here's another review for you: I think "The Else" is my favorite They Might Be Giants album since "John Henry."

Department of Lessons Learned From Learning Lessons: Mac OS's Dvorak – Qwerty ⌘ keyboard layout looks like an awesome deal, holding out the promise of keeping all of your muscle memory for keyboard shortcuts while still getting all that Dvorak goodness. It is a trap.

1. The Qwerty reversion only applies to commands that can be found in the menus. Everything else gets read as Dvorak.
2. That includes emacs keybindings in Cocoa text fields.
3. That includes stuff like cmd-shift-G for find-backwards, if the app isn't using dynamic menus.
4. Those unreverted commands take priority over well-behaved commands.
5. There is something totally fucked up going on with the + key, which I do not even understand in the slightest but which seems to cause one of your keyboard shortcuts to disappear entirely and another one to go wrong for no good reason.

Plus, keeping both layouts in your head at the same time is no good for your brain, and you don't have as many shortcuts in your muscle memory as you think you do. I turned it off in favor of the plain old Dvorak layout, and immediately gained 6 WPM.

I'm gonna try to start taking B vitamins again — I think I'm a bit low, and it's affecting my energy levels.
