Date: 2008-04-06 05:04 am (UTC)Hey, I've got a tangentially related story: When I was in high school, one of the secret methods for defeating a drug test that got passed around was -- not shitting you -- drinking a cap of bleach.
What I'm saying is that the concept of drinking bleach in order to avoid the unwanted consequences of fun was already part of the teenage weltanschauung eight or ten years ago. So I don't think it's implausible for that meme to mutate like that, and I don't think all of the bleach responses were jokes.

Date: 2008-04-06 07:39 pm (UTC)It just blows my mind that people don't have knowledge that I think of as common sense. In high school, if some kid had said "Oh, I can just drink a cap of bleach" to prevent hiv/pregnancy/failing a drug test I probably would have told them no, you have to drink the whole bottle and then waited. Now I just feel bad for them, and I thank god that I grew up where I did and they go onto that pile of bodies in my mind where I keep all the people who believe in Intelligent Design.
