Everyone's family has something of a Greatest Hits collection -- stories that get repeated over and over again, sometimes gaining layers of-- aw, fuckit, you know, all that This American Life intro-sequence bull. Whatever! My point is, there's this great Fagerlunds/Delongs crossover episode from somewhere around 1990 involving a possum living inside a double-paned window in our garage, which I have gotten plenty mileage out of. We just discovered that we have it on video.

I have GOT to find some way to get this sucker uploaded. Watch this space... for frightened men and confused possums in garbage cans.

If I could ever find my MISSING LAPTOP (how can that HAPPEN? it's just GONE!!! I mean, it was already broken but it has years' worth of photos on the hard drive.... GONE!!), I would have linked a photo of the possum that randomly sat on Matt's bike in the middle of the night; that was a fun story too!

I think Mom was trying to find a blank tape to record Deidra's graduation with. They also found a bunch of old camping trip footage, featuring mini-Kathleen, mini-Greg, and mini-Bryce. And a bunch of footage from the San Diego Zoo, featuring a red panda.

If you find a way to upload really old videos, you should post a thingy of how you did it.

My sister brought over a tape on Christmas that was taped Christmas of 95 that has my dead Grandma and my Aunt and my Uncle. It would be awesome to have that where I know she won't lose it.

Depends on the situation, I think? This particular tape was playing just fine in a camcorder with a firewire DV-out port, which means I may have a fighting chance of getting it on my Mac. Or maybe not. We'll see.

There are businesses that specialize in video transfer. If you can find a reputable one, that may be a surer bet.

actually, if you know anyone who works at a public television station, that might be a good place to check. maybe even if you don't know anyone there - they should have all the right equipment, at least.
