roadrunnertwiceSo we're going to be getting a pair of kittens on Thursday, who will be joining our big dumb bachelor-cat, Stefan. And I'm all antsy now about how well they're going to get along.
The thing is, we're actually doing this more for the cat than we are for ourselves. Really. He's not always a well-behaved kitty, but he's an innately social kitty, and losing first his housemate and then the neighbor cat has left him lonely and insecure and needy. It'll be nice to have kittens around, but it'll be even nicer to have a community of animals again.
Yes, you have to be careful about anthropomorphizing your pets. Yes, cats have different social needs than monkeys do. But we've lived with Stefan for edging up on a decade now, and I think we're qualified to say he needs non-human companionship. I think.
Anyway, can you tell it's been a while since we've done this?

I find I want to kill spiders less when I come across them in the bathroom if I imagine they are just on their way home after a long, grueling night at the fly factory.
