And then they taught me how to ride a motorcycle. I still need to work on riding one well, as well as on actually having one to ride, but the barriers at this point are solely practical—the legal and ethical ones have been managed.

I remember in reading in some history of bicycles that humans obsessed over motorizing a two-wheeled contrivance long before we worked out the automobile, and long after. After cars were able to be mass produced, we still were compelled to figure out motorcycles for the simple reason that they are fascinating to us. Theoretically useless—how many forms of transport do we need on the road after all—but very appealing and, as you say, fun.

It maybe a lingering attatchment to horses, but I think it's mainly the thrill of balancing on two tiny tangent points that does it.
