Mom and dad came to visit today, and they brought me a bunch of old video games and systems (because they didn't want us storing them in their den anymore 😝). So now I've got most of the makings of a retrogaming paradise sitting in cardboard boxes in my office.

This collection was me and my brother pooling pocket money throughout our preteen and teenage years, and while we weren't exactly loaded, there were two of us,* and we stretched it out by buying used whenever we could. So we ended up with a fair amount of cool shit... and we kept everything. Like, I don't think we sold a single video game over the ~10 years when we were actively growing this collection. (Although maybe five or six things went missing after we loaned them to people.)

Also I had weird timing and bizarre luck sometimes, so like, while we only have four games for our Sega Saturn, three of those games are Magic Knight Rayearth, Dragon Force, and Panzer Dragoon Saga (which I paid all of $60 for). Like, wtf. (This is one of those things where I legit believe it's a mystical power inherited on my mom's side, don't @ me.)

Anyway, it just so happens that I've been catching up on the state of fifth-gen emulation recently, and it's doing even better than I thought, so I've been spending my evening ripping PlayStation and Saturn CDs. Looking forward to some high-rez Mega Man Legends.

As for the rest of this gear... idk, not sure where I'd set up a CRT these days. Guess I'll just keep an eye out.

* Kate was basically not interested in video games, with rare exceptions that we tried hard to cultivate, lol. She'd join in on some Mario Kart or Dr. Mario from time to time, and had a brief interest in the Crash Bandicoot games. Other than that we were on our own.
