The fact that I'm selling the Variegated Albatross to [livejournal.com profile] robertcalvin finally gave me the impetus to partially dismantle the keyboard, sweep out some of the hair and garbage down there, and see if I couldn't figure out what in the hell was making the "2" key crunch so unpleasantly when I pressed down on it. And hey presto, vive la diffΓ©rence. I mean, it's still dirty, but it's not squalid.

What I'm saying is: if you need someone to violently pry your iBook's keyboard apart with a nail file, I'm your huckleberry.

EDIT: That's interesting, where by "interesting" I mean "fucking awesome." A week and a half ago, Amtrak fares at the end of the month were up in the $225-300 range; now the same period is back down to good old $141.

Sloth pays! Specifically, it pays between 84 and 160 US dollars.

FURTHER EDIT: Train ticket get! July 31, arriving in Seattle on August 2.

I wrapped a handlebar! I know, you're all thrilled.

handlebars

I was kind of nervous about it, since the materials are a wee bit unforgiving and you can't just unwrap and try again, but I think my first attempt turned out pretty great. Credit my high-level knot-tying skills.

front back

The original wrap was made out of a cut up innertube. No joke.

tube tube

The right-hand bar got replaced first because the plug had fallen out, allowing the innertube "tape" to come unwound and resulting in an unsightly dangly bit knotted to the bar. I'll ride it like this for a day or two to make sure there aren't any substantial gotchas I need to watch on the second go-round.

Things: Leave more tail when I start the wrap next time; the plug can handle it, I've got enough tape, and it'll make my job easier. The locking tape could be straighter, but whatever. The direction-switching method isn't actually hard at all. The end.
