"Apocalyptic." That's the word for these guys' music. All very telegraphed and emotional, and of course we all know I'm a sucker for that. Add in all those weird little bits of story, and I think I've got a few new favorite songs.
Ahem, anyway. So Unnatural Death was pretty all right! In fact, I quite liked it. I think it will have been valuable to see Peter sans Harriet before getting into the meat of the series. I guess he used to have nervous breakdowns a lot? You only get a glimpse of that at the very end, since he's mostly past that by then anyhow, but I certainly believed it. Anyway, there's moral ambiguity, things are deliciously meta (especially considering the c-date of 1927), the mystery and the villain are very well thought-out, and a pre-Cattery Miss Climpson nearly bites it (!!!) in an action-packed denouement. Oh, and plus? Lesbians. (So, so many lesbians.)
Now I'm diving in to Strong Poison. This whole Judge device is a totally uncushioned infodump, but I kind of respect the gumption that takes. It's like, "No, seriously, let's just get this out of the way and move on to the good part."
