Going out on top
Jun. 28th, 2006 08:49 pmJill Riley on the Current just informed us that Sleater-Kinney is "going on indefinite hiatus." Read, they have no plans to reconvene as a band at any point in the future. Not that this is completely out of the blue, but man, that was not something I really wanted to hear.
Thanks for the rock, ladies. 'Twas a motherfucker of a ride.
It sounds like they'll be playing one show in Portland in August. That might be a decent time to schedule a short trip back to the Northwest. Catch up with the fam. Hang out with my Portland friends. Party with Robert. See S-K's probably-last-show-ever. We'll see.

Date: 2006-06-29 02:49 am (UTC)2. Since the late '90s, the three of them have wanted different things out of the band; I think Corin in particular has wanted to spend less time doing band stuff and more time with her son. I hear they actually went into couples counseling as a band sometime after Dig Me Out was released, and by by all accounts, it let them stay together for far longer than they could have otherwise. But when you're in a band for 11 years, ways just tend to diverge.
So no huge falling-out, or anything like that. Just... stuff.
I don't think this has really hit me yet. =/

Date: 2006-06-29 03:05 am (UTC)I was never a superfan, myself, and the only album I own is One Beat, which I go through maybe once every four months nowadays, but I remember it being very good. Ah, what the hell--I might as well get around to digging out the CD and ripping MP3s to iTunes, in memoriam.

Date: 2006-06-29 04:44 am (UTC)I listened through it once so far, and it seemed merely okay. I'll have to do repeats later to let it sink in.
