Things keep thinging
Jul. 19th, 2008 05:14 pmI seem to be low on words these days, but things are going more or less well.
- My replacement MacBook has arrived, and being as the sum of my impressions is basically "Woo!" I will spare you the detailed version.
- Jess Ann is visiting WA, so she and Robert and I went on a hike yesterday (rated "Most Difficult") and contemplated the nature of propane shrimp.
- Whoa, did you notice the Lacey library switched to a self-serve hold shelf? Wild. They're using the first four letters of my last name this time. (Oh well.)
- As I feared, Twitter is eating my Livejournal. It's more fun than I thought it would be, which is almost entirely attributable to Twitterific. So, props to them. (Maybe someday I'll pony up for the app fee, although truth be told I kind of actually like the Deck ads. Dear Deck, feel free to quote that.)
- I'm going to try and schedule a posture exam with my sometime massage therapist, which should hopefully bring me some enlightenment w/r/t what to do about my snakey back-bones. (Long boring saga.)
- New shoes!
And last but not least:
- I'll be going to Northfield, Massachusetts between the 26th of this month and the third of next month to get my farm on. Is there anyone over there that I don't know about? (
unrendered, aren't you more or less in that area? Wanna get coffee?)

Date: 2008-07-20 02:19 am (UTC)Yay to new shoes! And thank you for posting on Chase's blog, I think everything he does is magic so it's nice when other people notice it too.

Date: 2008-07-22 06:04 am (UTC)I think having all your sites talk to each other might be Web 2.1. I certainly love that I can have a lively Facebook presence without having to visit Facebook.

Date: 2008-07-22 06:14 am (UTC)I do not go to Facebook. If I have to have an account to see anything at all, I do not want to deal with it. Also—memorable name and a wish to avoid anyone I grew up with.

Date: 2008-07-24 06:22 am (UTC)Facebook. So, when I joined Facebook, it was basically an intra-Macalester phone directory that occasionally invited me to parties, which was pretty sweet. But I think it grew features faster than it could grow its argument for using those features. (And boy, do I ever not want to play that guy's pirate game. Nor would I like to be "super poked.")
But lately, I've been liking the way it kinda-sorta-mostly interoperates with everything under the sun. A whole bunch of my college friends sporadically blog and tumblog on it, it reminds me of peoples' birthdays, everyone who doesn't know what Twitter is twitters via its "Status" function—and I can get it all via RSS and iCal, as well as have it re-publish my Twitter and anything in my LJ that I've deemed safe for the web-at-large. Oh, and it hooked me up with about a dozen friends who I had no idea were on Goodreads, so that was pretty cool.
That said, I still lack any desire to visit the site proper more often than once a month.
