This shit going down in my beloved Twin Cities is fucking madness. And I fucking KNEW this would happen! The Republican Party is like a dog that shits authoritarianism on the couch every time you let it inside.
What's sad is that i had to actively search to find out what you're talking about. Sure New Orleans, Palin's pregnant unwed daughter, Japan wanting a new prime minister are all hot topics. but, damn.
My favorite part was where the police decided that a crucial element of preparedness for the protests was to stage a warrantless intimidation raid against the organization that documents police misconduct at protests. Sweet holy hell.
You heard they arrested Amy Goodman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYjyvkR0bGQ), right? From Democracy Now? Arrested her for ... uh ... it looks like standing near a cop.
And raided Starhawk's group and arrested a 4 year-old child.
Heard about Goodman. Didn't hear about the tyke. Am surprised about neither. With Goodman, it doesn't really matter that she has the resources to sue bigtime: the arrest was meant to destroy her ability to cover the story and intimidate other journalists, so even if she manages to hurt the cops later, they've still accomplished their objective.
And taking away a kid by force is a great way to control their parent. I'm actually kind of impressed that they've gone that far beyond any sense of shame.
