I stayed up 'til four reading Fun Home. So should you. I knew Bechdel was good these days, but I had no idea she was capable of this. It's... dizzying. Genius, really. Bits of text ramify and branch and shatter, events echo and reverberate, and she holds it all together with sheer force of will, or force of orneriness, or force of grief—who knows. In one blinding segment, she blows off her Ulysses homework to do bongrips and read Lesbian Nation, then five pages later turns Joyce's own brilliant tricks back on him.

It's a beautiful, amazing, poignant, fractured tour de force, and it deserves a real review, which I will get to sometime when it is not four in the morning.
