You know, people run out of steam, out of hope, out of time. We're finite. This latest round of political theater was designed to damage us, to leave us hurting and sick. Guess what. It works. Hurting people works.

Maybe I'm not done yet. I'm not, you know, gone. Be a real shame to get there at 24. But you know what? I hurt. I can't fucking take much more of this. I'm heartsick and astounded and I'm not convinced it's possible to win anymore.

Gimme a day or two to rest, here at the end of my rope. Maybe I just need to charge my hope batteries. Maybe this wasn't the big one. Who knows. But for now, I can't see nothing but blackness, so I'm just gonna close my eyes for a while.

This isn't the first time habeas corpus has been suspended in this country. This isn't the first time people have been detained on a whim. This isn't the first time a President has abused his authority to impose sweeping changes in American law (though I think most of us would agree Lincoln was at least doing it for a good cause). Things are getting bad, yes, but we have previously demonstrated the capacity to recover from this level of badness before. There is a non-zero probability we will do so again.

If you require hope to function, then perhaps those facts will you give you some, grim though it may be. I choose to lead a hope-free existence, so for me, this is simply one more problem that needs solving.

Whenever anything political starts getting me really, really down, I remember I am just one person and do not have to carry the world on my shoulders. This may or may not be a comfort to you (maybe you do secretly carry the world on your shoulders), but it helps me. :)
